Boat Capsizes Near Liberty Island Resulting in Two Deaths

A tragic incident occurred near Liberty Island in New York Harbor on Saturday night when a boat capsized, leading to the deaths of two individuals, including an infant. The New York Police Department (NYPD) reported that they received a call about an overturned vessel in the vicinity of Liberty Island at approximately 10:25 p.m.

Before the police arrived, 12 people were rescued from the water. NYPD divers later found an adult female and an infant in the water. Both were transported to NYU Langone Hospital in Brooklyn in critical condition but were later pronounced dead. Their identities have not been disclosed by the authorities.

The police mentioned that some of the other passengers from the boat were also taken to the hospital. These individuals are believed to be in stable condition at present. The reason behind the vessel’s capsizing is still under investigation, and no arrests have been made.

A police source revealed to Fox News Digital that the vessel in question was a 22-foot bowrider. The response to the incident involved several units from the NYPD, including the Harbor Unit, Scuba Team, and Aviation Unit, alongside assistance from the U.S. Coast Guard.
