Bobby Pulido, known for his successful career in Tejano music, is making headlines as he transitions into politics. In an interview from 2010 with a Mexican newspaper, Pulido reflected on his changed lifestyle since becoming a music star. He noted that once his career took off, he rarely found time for everyday activities like grocery shopping.
Pulido, a Democratic candidate, aims to represent Texas’s 15th congressional district, one of the most contested areas in the nation. While Pulido’s personal narrative contrasts with the Democratic focus on affordability, his campaign targets economic issues, such as inflation and high gas prices, which have been a point of contention against the former President Donald Trump.
Bobby Pulido stated, “The economy we care about is not a bunch of numbers and letters flashing on a board on Wall Street. It’s in our pockets, at the pump, in the grocery store when we buy fajitas, milk and eggs – and for some, it’s when they have to choose between paying the rent or for their health insurance.”
Pulido’s musical fame stems from hits like “Desvelado” and “Se Murió de Amor.” His accolades include five Latin Grammy nominations and two awards for Best Tejano Album in 2022 and 2025. Despite controversies in his past, Pulido focuses his campaign on economic issues largely overlooked by current governance.
His district, mainly the Rio Grande Valley, is acutely impacted by inflation, which rose to 4.2% in May from 3.8% in April, as per the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Pulido argues that inflation has a disproportionate effect on his district due to its lower income levels.
Bobby Pulido’s bid is against incumbent Rep. Monica De La Cruz, who previously won the district with a significant margin. The competitive nature of this election arises from recent redistricting strategies aimed at reducing Democratic seats.
