1 hour ago 0

During the America 250 celebrations marking Independence Day, contrasting events unfolded between New York City and Washington, D.C. In New York, as President Donald Trump praised the architectural marvel of the Brooklyn Bridge in his speech, a fire erupted on the bridge.

The blaze occurred during New York City’s Fourth of July fireworks display on Saturday night. Spectators witnessed flames spreading across the landmark, accompanied by a cloud of smoke. Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames, ensuring no injuries were reported.

The city’s fire department confirmed that two fire engines were deployed to combat the fire on the bridge, which had been closed to vehicle traffic during the fireworks event. The incident took place shortly before 10 p.m. Eastern Time.

Severe weather along the East Coast forced a rescheduling of the fireworks show, leading to canceled and delayed events, including those in Washington, D.C., where a storm resulted in an evacuation at the National Mall.

President Trump, speaking in his Salute to America 250 address, coincidentally hailed the Brooklyn Bridge. He described it as one of the most beautiful bridges in the world. His 37-minute speech highlighted historic American flags and ancestors of well-known American figures.

Trump paid tribute to iconic American heroes such as Davy Crockett, Wyatt Earp, Annie Oakley, Teddy Roosevelt, and Buffalo Bill Cody. He noted the presence of their descendants, celebrating America’s bold and daring legacy.

Historical flags featured prominently in President Trump’s address. Among them was one that flew over the Brooklyn Bridge and another carried west during Lewis and Clark’s journey in 1803.

Despite the fire, New York City’s America 250 fireworks display offered a spectacular and historic celebration. Fireworks lit up the sky across the Brooklyn Bridge and Lower Manhattan. The event highlighted the enduring grit and boldness that characterize America’s spirit.
