Cadillac Formula 1 Team Brings In New Leadership Amid Struggles

The Formula 1 summer break typically means a slowdown in news, but a surprising announcement has come from the Cadillac team. Positioned last in the standings, the team is undergoing changes, parting ways with team boss Graeme Lowdon and appointing Marcin Budkowski, a former Alpine executive director, as his replacement.

Cadillac Formula 1 Team CEO Dan Towriss expressed optimism about the appointment. ‘Marcin’s appointment marks another important step in the continued evolution of the Cadillac Formula 1 Team,’ he said. ‘From the beginning, our goal has not been simply to participate in Formula 1, but to build a next-generation team capable of competing at the very front.’

No specific reason was provided for Lowdon’s departure, whether it was a decision by him or the team’s Indianapolis and Silverstone bases. Lowdon played a crucial role in forming the team and led it through the first 11 races of the debut season. Towriss acknowledged Lowdon’s efforts, expressing gratitude for his leadership and foundational contributions.

Cadillac’s performance has faced challenges, with both speed and reliability issues. Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas have each experienced four DNFs in this season’s Grand Prix events, including complete retirements at the Austrian and Hungarian races. Nevertheless, a P10 finish in the Constructors’ standings remains possible. Cadillac needs only two points to surpass Aston Martin for P10.

While Aston Martin has also struggled, they secured a point in Monaco, but recent upgrades could enhance their performance. The upcoming Dutch Grand Prix on August 23 will reveal whether Cadillac’s changes bring improvements to the track.
