Camp Breastie, a cherished retreat for breast cancer survivors in Pennsylvania, has gained significant popularity. Its success has prompted organizers to introduce a West Coast location. This expansion will accommodate more participants eager to be part of this healing experience.
The Camp Experience
This four-day event offers various activities designed to support and empower attendees. Every morning, participants gather for a lakeside venting session. Here, women write their troubles on stones and throw them into the water. This activity is a symbolic release of burdens. Shelby Jones, 33, from New York City, penned ‘Anger’ on her stone. Emily Tout, 30, a single mother from Buffalo facing metastatic disease, wrote ‘Fear.’
Nancy Antoine, 51, a cancer survivor from Davie, Florida, often practices scream therapy. She encouraged campers to let out their emotions with a scream. ‘Just release what you’re carrying with you, and let the lake receive it,’ she advised.
Growing Popularity
This year, over 500 women attended the event. The camp welcomes breast cancer survivors, women managing advanced disease, and those at high risk who take preventive measures. The demand continually increases, particularly among younger adults. Organizers noted a sharp rise in breast cancer cases among younger individuals, enhancing the camp’s appeal.
With more than 350,000 women in the United States diagnosed each year, Camp Breastie offers a sense of community and support. Last year, tickets sold out within two weeks. This year, it took less than two hours.

Attendees are grouped into cabin teams named after fruits, such as Apple.
