Candy Thompson’s Journey From Feminism Back to Christianity

4 days ago 0

Octogenarian Candy Thompson, once a follower of feminism, experienced a life-altering journey that led her back to her Christian faith. Thompson shared her story with Fox News Digital, expressing how feminism had initially swayed her from her religious beliefs.

Thompson spoke candidly about how feminism created divisions. “The feminists pitted [women] against men, they pitted us against having children… It belittled who we were in the home and [as] mothers, and it belittled who we were as just women in a marriage,” she explained. She reflected on how this shift negatively impacted her life, adding, “When it pitted us against God even… then that’s what really led to what happened to me.”

Thompson, who attended the University of North Carolina in the 1960s, noted that her introduction to feminism during college contributed to her distancing from Christian values. At that time, feminism’s emphasis on equality resonated with her. However, she recalled a traumatic experience, a miscarriage in her college dorm, after which she continued distancing herself from her faith.

During her first marriage, which ended in divorce, Thompson had three abortions. These experiences have led her to honor her lost children with acknowledgment-of-life certificates. “There were lots of effects like anger. I did not understand as a young woman what my actual created purpose was… Those things were not really clear until I returned to my former faith,” she stated.

Thompson emphasized the struggle young women face today. “We have young people from the colleges into our homes and they’re hungry. They are hungry to know who they really are and they want to be married,” she continued. She highlighted their desire for a lifelong relationship, but mentioned their reluctance in trusting men due to previous heartbreak.

She described these young women as “lost,” seeking guidance and understanding of their identities. Thompson’s story serves as a testament to the complexities of navigating personal beliefs and societal influences.
