LEWISTON, Maine — On an ordinary afternoon, a 41-year-old single mother from South Africa, who arrived in the U.S. as a refugee earlier this year, visited a coffee shop in central Maine.
Adri and her two daughters made their journey to Lewiston, Maine, in March, leaving South Africa behind. Their experience represents the changing face of America’s approach to welcoming refugees.
