Chicago police are investigating the tragic death of a young girl in the West Ridge neighborhood. The 1-year-old, identified as Maombi Joyeuse, was found unresponsive with visible injuries on her lower body. This incident took place at a home located in the 2600 block of West Rosemont Avenue at approximately 11:40 a.m.
Following the discovery, Maombi was promptly taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Cook County medical examiner’s office has identified her and an autopsy is planned for Sunday.
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services has not released detailed information yet. However, they confirmed their collaboration with the police in the investigation, which will continue after the autopsy results are available.
