Chicago White Sox first baseman Munetaka Murakami has drawn energy from the home crowds at Rate Field. Through an interpreter on Tuesday, Murakami expressed his enthusiasm: “The crowds have been 100% awesome throughout the year. It gets really loud. I’m happy the crowds are there and are supporting the team all the way.”
The Sox are expecting energetic fans on Wednesday for Game 3 of the American League Division Series against the Cleveland Guardians, marking their first home game this postseason. Manager Will Venable stated, “Maybe the most simple way to put what is special about our club is the enthusiasm on the field. That enthusiasm comes from players that are excited and play hard, and that enthusiasm comes from and is fueled by our fans as well.”
Reliever Grant Taylor shared, “I’m pretty excited for (Wednesday) and what the crowds are going to bring us. It’s about time we gave them some postseason baseball.”
The Sox return with a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five division series. General manager Chris Getz remarked, “Once we got through (Monday’s) game, my mind went straight to what kind of an environment are we going to have in Chicago, knowing the importance of this game, what it represents, with this team. This fan base has been so supportive throughout the year. Our player group really responds well to our fan base.”
According to Sarah Langs from MLB.com, Game 3 will mark only the second instance in franchise history where the Sox play a home game with a chance to clinch a postseason series. The first occasion was Game 6 of the 1906 World Series, where they triumphed over the Cubs.
Sean Newcomb to Start Game 3
Sean Newcomb earned the Game 3 starting position for the Sox. He initially pitched in Game 2, entering after starter Anthony Kay faced three batters. Despite an error, Newcomb rebounded well, striking out three over two innings.
Venable praised Newcomb’s performance: “I thought the performance in Game 2, despite the challenging defensive play, was crisp and sharp. There’s confidence in him.” He added that more pitchers may be seen on Wednesday, noting the rest days between the games allowed strategic decisions, but from now on, “we’re going to have to do everything that we can to cover these innings in a winning formula.”
Daniel Espino is set to start for the Guardians.
Grant Taylor’s Preparation for Game 2
Grant Taylor played impressively during Game 1, saving the game by pitching four innings. In Game 2, he was called for the final 1 1/3 innings, securing another save. Taylor explained his recovery: “Threw four innings; since it was a day game, had time to have dinner with my fiancée and family, went to sleep early.”
Taylor detailed his preparation further, emphasizing maximizing rest and recovery, including hydration and massage. On Monday, he ensured his arm was ready before the game.
Munetaka Murakami on Team Unity
Murakami shined in the first ALDS contests, hitting a two-run home run in Game 1 and an RBI single in Game 2. He emphasized team unity: “We’re contributing on all points in all the games.”
Murakami highlighted the bullpen’s effectiveness in challenging positions: “We’re very unified as a team. We’re looking in the same direction, and that’s why we’re able to have success in this stretch.”
