Chiropractor Admits to Serious Crimes

A chiropractor from Batavia, David Hanson, aged 44, has pleaded guilty to crimes involving child sexual abuse material. Hanson admitted to producing and disseminating material of minors under 13. The allegations include secretly recording at least 180 nude or partially clothed patients, some of whom were children.

Victims Speak Out

Victims of Hanson voiced their distress at a news conference held outside the Kane County Judicial Center. One victim, identified as Jenna, expressed betrayal after entrusting Hanson with her and her daughter’s care. ‘We placed our trust in Dave Hanson, expecting privacy and dignity, which was horribly violated,’ Jenna said. She highlighted the trauma of explaining the gravity of these offenses to her child.

Another victim shared her ongoing anxiety and fear of being secretly recorded in medical or private settings.

Lawsuits and Investigations

Since Hanson’s arrest in November 2025, eleven lawsuits have been filed against him on behalf of over 64 victims. Charges against Hanson include 76 counts of child sexual abuse material crimes and unauthorized video recording. Authorities allege he recorded patients in rooms where therapy was performed, sharing the videos on platforms like Session, SimpleX, and Discord.

Batavia police began their investigation in September 2025, prompted by a tip-off. Searches uncovered hidden cameras within clinic vents and fans. The timeline of videos stretches from 2016 to November 5, 2025, the day of Hanson’s arrest.

“No patient should ever be used as an object or a commodity,” Jenna emphasized.

Potential Suspects and Legal Actions

Attorney Elizabeth Fegan expressed suspicion that Hanson might have sold the recordings, potentially leading to lawsuits against payment processors and banks. Additionally, the building owners of Hanson’s former clinic face lawsuits for negligence, as they had access to the areas where cameras were found.

Grant Dixon, representing several plaintiffs, commended prosecutors but acknowledged ongoing efforts to secure justice, suspecting more victims exist.

Legal Consequences and Sentencing

Hanson, a licensed chiropractor since 2013, had his license suspended pending trial outcomes. Scheduled for sentencing on November 10, Hanson could face 12 to 60 years in prison, possibly more if deemed eligible for extended-term sentencing. He will be required to register as a sex offender for life.
