Chris Brown Pleads Guilty to Affray in London Nightclub Incident

In London, Grammy-winning singer Chris Brown has admitted to affray connected to a conflict at a London nightclub, injuring a music producer. This plea change occurred on Friday at Southwark Crown Court. Brown, 37, initially denied more severe accusations stemming from what prosecutors described as an intense attack in 2023.

By pleading guilty, Brown has seen charges of assault, attempted grievous bodily harm, and possession of an offensive weapon, specifically a bottle, dropped by prosecutors. His associate, Omololu Akinlolu, who is also his vocal coach, admitted to affray as well. Both were scheduled for trial in October.

The initial allegations involved Brown assaulting Abraham Diaw with a bottle at the Tape nightclub, located in the upscale Mayfair region in February 2023. Surveillance footage reportedly captured the incident in a crowded club setting. Following Brown’s plea, Crown Prosecution Service senior prosecutor Claire Campbell emphasized the seriousness of the incident.

This was a vicious and unprovoked attack by Brown and Akinlolu in a crowded nightclub where Brown used a glass bottle as a weapon to strike the victim’s head twice.

Campbell further stressed the importance of addressing such violent acts, asserting that no person, regardless of their status, is exempt from the law.

Previously, Brown was released on bail of 5 million pounds ($6.75 million), permitting him to tour both Europe and North America. After the plea, he was granted bail again and is slated for sentencing on October 26 for the affray charge. The maximum penalty for this offense is three years in imprisonment.

Brown attended the court session in a tan suit complemented by gold-rimmed sunglasses and a St. Louis Cardinals baseball cap. He attended to fans, signing autographs as he exited the courthouse. Brown gained widespread recognition as a teenager in 2005 and won his first Grammy for best R&B album in 2011 with “F.A.M.E.” He claimed a second Grammy for “11:11 (Deluxe)” in 2025.
