The Cincinnati Bengals made headlines in 2021 by not only reaching the postseason, an uncommon achievement for Ohio-based NFL teams, but advancing to the Super Bowl. Despite appearing as a potential dynasty, they’ve failed to revisit the Super Bowl and missed the playoffs for three seasons.
This offseason, the Bengals reinforced their defense and enhanced the offensive line. These efforts aim to position Joe Burrow to steer the team back to the peak. Burrow expressed confidence, stating this is the best roster he’s seen. He believes 2026 is the year for success, frequently describing the team as Super Bowl-ready.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, Burrow shared his perspective on high expectations: “I’ve never understood the fear of stating goals,” Burrow remarked. “People may fear media narratives about them or their team. Yet setting expectations within oneself, teammates, and the organization is crucial. The daily pursuit of winning the Super Bowl is essential.”
Burrow’s career began at Athens High School in The Plains, Ohio, followed by Ohio State, LSU, and now Cincinnati. He has found success at every stage. His Heisman-winning 2019 season with LSU remains highly acclaimed, and the Bengals’ Super Bowl appearance occurred in his second professional year. Over the years, he’s been selected for three Pro Bowls, earned two Comeback Player of the Year accolades, and remains one of the league’s top quarterbacks.
As Burrow approaches his seventh NFL season, turning 30 in December, he is eager for the organization to meet championship-level expectations. The Bengals embody the championship-or-bust mentality, and Burrow is resolute in embracing it.
