Cleveland Browns Training Camp: Shedeur Sanders on Team Dynamics

The Cleveland Browns’ training camp is in full swing, and quarterback Shedeur Sanders believes internal harmony sets his team apart. In a conversation with Browns legend Bernie Kosar, Sanders shared insights from his second year at camp.

Sanders emphasized the positive atmosphere among the team. “I’m truly excited for this year,” he stated. “The attitude about everybody in the building, like we the hard coaching, we like all that stuff, because we know it’s coming from a place of wanting us to be great. … Everybody’s goal is aligned here. That’s why we don’t have the petty quarterback battles internally.” Sanders highlighted the importance of alignment and credited the coaching staff.

Selected by Cleveland in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Sanders stepped in as the team’s starter in Week 11 last season after Dillon Gabriel’s concussion. In seven starts, he managed a 3-4 record with 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. His efforts earned him a surprising Pro Bowl selection as a rookie.

This season, Sanders faces competition from NFL veteran Deshaun Watson for the starting quarterback position. The team’s head coach, Todd Monken, has not indicated the frontrunner in the competition. Dillon Gabriel remains on the depth chart in the third spot, eager for a chance to prove himself.

Sanders expressed confidence in the quarterbacks’ camaraderie. “That’s where I say we’ve grown for sure the most. I’d say for sure in the quarterback room,” Sanders told Kosar, who appreciated the unity among them.

The Browns’ preseason kicks off on August 15 with a game against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field. Their regular season starts on Sunday, September 13, with a match against Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
