Colin Kaepernick Critiques NFL and Trump Administration

2 weeks ago 0

In a recent discussion on the talk show ‘The View’, former NFL athlete Colin Kaepernick voiced criticism against the Trump administration, stating the NFL supported it politically. Kaepernick, who is known for his protests during national anthem ceremonies, was questioned by co-host Ana Navarro about his NFL career and subsequent absence from the league after protesting.

Navarro highlighted the period when Kaepernick opted out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers following his protests, noting his lawsuit against the NFL alleging collusion by team owners to exclude him. She asked Kaepernick to reflect on why he believes no NFL team offered him another opportunity.

Kaepernick attributed the league’s stance to political influences and power dynamics. In his new book, ‘The Perilous Fight’, he discusses his career and his decision to kneel during the anthem as a form of protest against racial injustice. During the show, Kaepernick argued that the NFL’s response to his protests sheds light on its political stance, citing evidence of financial contributions to the Trump administration as an example.

Sunny Hostin, a co-host, supported Kaepernick’s perspective, noting audience approval. Kaepernick emphasized the significant portion of Black players in the NFL, suggesting they hold considerable influence over the direction of the league. If players united and decided not to play for a weekend, Kaepernick asserted, it could lead to immediate and significant changes.

However, Kaepernick acknowledged both support and severe opposition to his protests, including serious threats from people who considered his actions disrespectful to national symbols and military personnel. Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin inquired about whether he was surprised by the backlash.

While Kaepernick anticipated some resistance, as seen historically with Black athletes who protested, he was candidly surprised by the intense opposition to calls for police reform. He expressed disbelief that the issue of police violence against Black people was seen as controversial, stating that such matters reveal the broader societal challenges and the need for further efforts.

The NFL and White House did not provide immediate responses to Fox News’ requests for comments on his remarks.

Kaepernick’s activism, including his stance against racial injustice and decision to kneel, cost him his NFL career. Despite opting out of the 49ers contract in 2017, no team offered him a position thereafter. He recently declared he no longer supports the NFL due to ongoing exclusionary practices against him and other protesting players.
