College Football Recruiting Highlights in July: Major Wins for Miami, Indiana, and Florida State

As August begins, excitement builds in the college football world. Fans eagerly await the new season, hoping their teams will succeed. Aside from on-field action, recruiting is a significant focus.

By mid-summer, top recruits typically commit, but July still brought notable developments. Let’s look at three programs that gained significant recruiting wins.

Miami Hurricanes

Following a strong June, Miami Hurricanes, led by coach Mario Cristobal, appeared to ease off in July. Previously, they secured a top-five spot in recruiting rankings with 20 commitments.

However, rumors surfaced about five-star cornerback A’mir Sears reclassifying from 2028 to 2027. As a local South Florida talent, Miami was favored to gain his commitment, and by July’s end, Sears officially chose Miami. This bolstered their recruiting class to five five-star recruits, signaling their resurgence.

Miami’s 2027 class boasts the highest average player rating, over 93.5, with 21 commits as of August 1. They continue to excel in recruiting, setting a high standard nationwide.

Indiana Hoosiers

At first glance, Indiana Hoosiers’ rank in the 30s and only landing one July commit might raise eyebrows. Despite a history of recruiting struggles, Indiana made a historic gain by securing their first five-star recruit, Monshun Sales.

Sales, a top prospect from Indianapolis, chose Indiana over giants like Alabama. His commitment marks a pivotal change in Hoosiers’ recruiting narrative, adding a significant talent to their future lineup.

Florida State Seminoles

Florida State faced recruiting challenges at the start of summer, ranking in the 50s without a four-star recruit. Yet, their fortunes changed dramatically in July.

Under coach Mike Norvell, the Seminoles signed two more four-star prospects, including highly-rated Ta’Shawn Poole. Stealing Poole from home-state Georgia was an impressive feat.

The addition of Sunshine State talents Za’Kari Johnson and Meshi Dobson, pursued by Alabama and Auburn, further boosted their class. This rapid improvement has revitalized Florida State’s recruiting outlook.
