Comedian Clash: Jeff Dye and Laura Kightlinger

1 week ago 0

Comedian Jeff Dye criticized fellow performer Laura Kightlinger after she wrote an insult on his Tesla. Dye called her actions “inappropriate for a 60-year-old” woman.

Dye shared images on social media captured by his Tesla’s security cameras. These showed Kightlinger writing a derogatory word on the fogged windshield of his car. Dye explained they performed together, but had not spoken, and that she left before his act.

Performed on a show with a comic I’ve never met. Her name is Laura Kightlinger @KingKightlinger. She seemed nice enough. We didn’t talk and she left before I went up. I’m assuming she didn’t know it was my Tesla she wrote ‘Douche’ on my Tesla. Strange behavior for a 60-year-old adult. Look forward to working with you again.

The post gained significant attention online, receiving over 440,000 views. Dye later remarked that if he had marked something similar on her car, she might have spoken about gender treatment in comedy and safety concerns.

Kightlinger is known for her work as a consulting producer on Will & Grace and her specials on Comedy Central and HBO. She also supported Bernie Sanders in the 2016 presidential election. Dye is a vocal conservative and identifies as Christian.

Kightlinger shared her version of events and apologized on social media for her “impulsive” action. Screenshots of conversations between the two show Dye criticizing her behavior as immature.

I was so annoyed by his taking down of a comic who had just performed I impulsively wrote douche in the fog on his car. The way you’re crying out about it should be embarrassing to tough-guy misogynists everywhere, Kightlinger said.

Dye responded, Im not ‘Crying out’. Im simply holding you accountable for your bulls—. I’m also not a tough guy or a misogynist. I’m simply a fellow comedian that didn’t appreciate being called a name. I’d thought you’d understand that.

Entertainment reporter Christian Toto commented on the partisan tension highlighted by this incident. He mentioned that right-leaning comedians like Dye often face criticism, but emphasized the unusual nature of Kightlinger’s approach.

The fact that she chose a different path, I don’t think that suits her well,

The incident underscores the broader dynamics and political divisions in the comedy field today. Attempts to reach Kightlinger for comment were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
