Mythical Creatures Week in Oak Park

The Park District of Oak Park recently hosted Mythical Creatures Week, providing endless fun for all age groups. One highlight was a cardboard regatta at Rehm Pool, where participants sailed homemade boats. This event tested the engineering abilities of each participant. Additionally, the week featured art and craft activities at the Dole Center. Participants crafted fairies, muppets, and mermaid collages. At Austin Gardens, attendees made plaster casts of various tracks, such as animal and Bigfoot footprints.

Visitors also enjoyed family events at Pleasant Home and strolled through Scoville Park, meeting mythical creatures and curious characters. The Oak Park Conservatory offered educational insights into local plants and creatures.

Darien Fest Offers Music and Entertainment

The 38th annual Darien Fest will take place from August 7 to 9 at Hinsdale South High School. The event kicks off on August 7 with opening ceremonies and a performance by the high school’s marching band and cheerleaders. The Rat Pack tribute band, Ocean’s Rat Pack, will perform in the evening. Carnival rides and games will be available throughout the festival.

On August 8, activities include a business expo and lively performances by bands like Whiskey Road and Heartache Tonight. Attendees can also participate in bingo with Cancer Smashers. The festival concludes on August 9, with carnival attractions and performances including Blind Reality and Grand Illusion. The festival restricts pets, bikes, and outside food. Burr Ridge Art Festival Returns

Church Food Pantry Support

Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hillside will host a grocery giveaway on several dates, including August 9, September 12, and October 10.
