Conservatives Respond to DSA’s Policy Proposals

3 weeks ago 0

The national co-chair of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), Megan Romer, faced criticism from conservatives after voicing support for various DSA policy ideas. These ideas include abolishing the Senate, eliminating prisons, and removing national borders. Romer confirmed these positions during an interview with Shannon Bream on Fox News.

When asked about the organization’s platform on dismantling American institutions, Romer replied affirmatively. The platform includes abolishing the presidency and the Supreme Court, eliminating ICE, and transitioning large corporations to public ownership.

[You’re advocating for] abolish[ing] the Senate?

Romer responded, True. She mentioned that some proposals, like eliminating borders and prisons, are part of a long-term vision. High-profile conservatives reacted strongly.

Senator Ted Cruz commented, These people are insane. House Speaker Mike Johnson wrote about the threat of socialism, calling it a shift from common sense to communism. Actress Patricia Heaton remarked, Yikes.

Steve Scalise, House Majority Leader, expressed concern about DSA’s influence, not limited to New York or California. He noted the success of Bernie Sanders- and Mamdani-backed candidates nationwide. Rep. Burgess Owens commented on the forthrightness of today’s Marxists, suggesting, ignorance is Bliss.

In Wisconsin, Tom Tiffany criticized Romer’s statements, relating them to Francesca Hong, another democratic socialist candidate. A spokesperson for Hong rejected these allegations, stating that Tiffany was fabricating quotes. Hong does not endorse all positions in the DSA’s national program.

Hong clarified her stance in an interview, condemning hatred and dehumanizing communities. Her campaign lists endorsements from local DSA chapters but distances from some national positions.

In Iowa, Joe Mitchell, a Republican candidate, accused Lindsay James, a Democrat, of supporting similar socialist policies. James’ campaign spokesperson refuted this, calling Mitchell’s statements lies.

The Virginia GOP demanded Democrats denounce DSA’s policies. Tennessee Rep. Chuck Fleischmann and Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman also criticized the DSA’s positions.

Bill Ackman questioned voting for DSA members, labeling their vision as anarchist. Ackman also criticized New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s policies as disastrous.

The DSA did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment. Socialist campaigns are gaining traction, notably in New York, where Mamdani-backed candidates succeeded in recent elections.
