Controversy Surrounds Wisconsin Brewery’s Plans for Beer Promotion on Senator’s Death

The Minocqua Brewing Company in Wisconsin has again stirred controversy. Previously known for its promise of free beer after Donald Trump’s death, it now plans a “half-price beer day” when Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., passes away.

On Instagram, the brewery announced that McConnell’s death would be an occasion for selling beer at half price. It claimed that the senator was the cause of “about half of America’s current problems.” The brewery commented that “Rigor Tortoise” might have died several months ago, in a jab referring to McConnell’s prolonged absence due to a fall.

Sen. Mitch McConnell, aged 84, is still recovering from a fall last month and has not returned to the Senate. His office indicated he is not “medically cleared” for Senate duties. Kentucky law mandates no election will replace McConnell until January, due to Gov. Andy Beshear not scheduling one before August 3rd. The brewery criticized this decision.

The Instagram post asserted that upon confirmation of McConnell’s death, they would initiate #halfpricebeerday as promised. The brewery viewed this as fulfilling their commitment to serve beer at a discount when McConnell’s “Faustian dance” ends.

Gov. Beshear recently requested McConnell prove his capability to serve or resign from Congress following his hospital stay, emphasizing the need for verbal communication with Kentucky constituents.

Previously, Minocqua Brewing Company faced backlash over its “free beer day” concerning Trump’s death, hinting at a similar event without naming him directly. The brewery owner, Kirk Bangstad, faces challenges with his permit after alleged tax violations involving transporting beer from Illinois. Specifically, Wisconsin’s Department of Revenue intends to revoke the brewery’s permit, although Bangstad has filed an administrative appeal to counter this move.

Bangstad also leads the Minocqua Brewing Company SuperPAC, targeting Republican officials linked to false election claims and COVID-19 response criticism.
