A couple in Southern California solved the enigma of their dog’s late-night barking at their cabin in the San Bernardino Mountains. Early morning surveillance footage unveiled the cause: three coyotes right at their doorstep.
The footage captured a fierce 40-minute altercation beginning around 1 a.m. on a Sunday. David and Annette Simpson were absent during the unexpected event, but their surveillance cameras documented the territorial clash. Naturally, they shared the video on social media and spoke with the local news about the encounter.
Annette Simpson expressed their realization, stating, “We wonder why our dog barks in the middle of the night, and now we know.” Previously, they had encountered bears and squirrels, but witnessing a coyote confrontation was unprecedented.
Despite the coyotes’ close proximity, Annette was unfazed. She remarked, “I think it’s pretty cool. We really enjoy watching the wildlife and just so close.” The coyotes boldly approached their front steps, a mere few feet from where the family resides.
While they take pleasure in observing wildlife, they maintain concern for their domesticated pets. Annette, who sometimes allows her cats on the patio, has reconsidered this practice after viewing the footage. The safety of their pets remains paramount even amid their fascination with the local wildlife.
