A Cuban national whom ICE identifies as being in the U.S. illegally is connected to a burglary in South Florida. The targeted home belonged to individuals who died in a Kenya helicopter crash.
Arrest Details
Geybert Alexander Garcia, 40, and Melany Pavon-Perdomo, 24, were arrested on August 25. According to Miami-Dade court records, Garcia is a U.S. citizen. Pavon-Perdomo was detained by ICE after Coral Gables police charged her with grand theft and burglary.
An ICE spokesperson said Pavon-Perdomo entered the U.S. without adjusting her status and is illegally in the country.
Burglary Accusations
The pair allegedly stole luxury vehicles, documents, jewelry, and artwork from the home of Henry Parra, 55, and Adam Hlavaty, 42. The home was valued at nearly $3 million.
Parra and Hlavaty were victims in a helicopter crash in Samburu County, Kenya, on August 19.
Helicopter Crash
The crash killed seven people, including five U.S. citizens. Victims included Miami restaurateur Roger Duarte and Telemundo executive José Suárez. The cause of the crash is under investigation, according to Kenya’s aviation authority.
Friends described Parra and Hlavaty as a devoted and generous couple who enjoyed spending time traveling with loved ones.
Burglarizing the Coral Gables Home
The couple left home on August 12. After their deaths, investigators found the home intact. Between August 20 and August 22, someone entered and stole various items including vehicles.
Investigation and Arrest
Using Apple’s Find My service, police traced stolen items to a Miami-Dade residence. Officers recovered stolen vehicles and artwork, and detained Garcia and Pavon-Perdomo. Garcia faced burglary and theft charges.
Legal Proceedings
Pavon-Perdomo and Garcia have been charged with burglary and grand theft. Their arraignments are set for September 28. ICE officials emphasized zero tolerance for illegal activities committed by undocumented immigrants.
