The D.C. Council has decided to defer major decisions for the following year. All council members agreed to this approach during a vote held on Tuesday.
They chose not to implement over $400 million in budget cuts suggested by the outgoing Mayor, Muriel E. Bowser. Instead, the council opted to allocate $150 million from the city’s emergency reserves, often referred to as the ‘rainy day’ fund, to manage operating expenses.
In a budget hearing on June 9, council members Janeese Lewis George, Brooke Pinto, and Robert White Jr. engaged in discussions about these financial strategies.
