Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth delivered an extensive speech at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, announcing six new initiatives during a 52-minute presentation. Among these efforts is a new combatant command focusing on the development of autonomous warfare. The Pentagon is also forming partnerships with colleges and has created a new Office of Religious Affairs. Additionally, governors are invited to contribute to building a new military base within the United States.
Hegseth’s speech touched on familiar themes, criticizing cultural aspects and media coverage of the Iran conflict. He claimed the ‘warrior ethos’ has been revived and that the U.S. military has been ‘rebuilt.’
“I like to think last year’s Quantico speech was ‘Liberation Day’ for leaders, for you, to be the apolitical, hard-charging, commonsense, no-nonsense constitutional leaders that you joined the military to be,” Hegseth stated, referencing his prior address to military generals and admirals.
Hegseth emphasized a need to cut 20 percent of generals and admirals, describing it as a necessary reform.
