Michigan’s Democratic Senate nominee, Abdul El-Sayed, faces scrutiny regarding his campaign’s connections with far-left streamer Hasan Piker. Piker’s controversial comments about U.S. Jews have led to calls from prominent Democrats urging colleagues to distance themselves from him.
Former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer joined ‘America Reports’ to discuss the fallout and the increasing concerns about antisemitism within the far-left. Democratic Senators Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) criticized Piker for his remarks suggesting that Jewish Americans might suffer due to their support for Israel. Piker stated, “If Jews in America keep putting this idea out there that they are singularly invested in Israel, eventually someone is going to come around and take action, not against the state of Israel, but against American Jews.”
Slotkin, seen as a potential 2028 presidential candidate, expressed her disapproval of Piker’s comments. She stated, “No community should face the threat of violence for their political views.” Slotkin emphasized that blaming victims for violence puts others in danger.
In a time where political violence and antisemitism has been spiking – and where just 6 months ago Michigan had a nearly deadly event of antisemitic mass violence at Temple Israel – no one should casually be suggesting that anyone, Jews or otherwise, are to blame for being targeted,Slotkin said.
Senator Rosen mirrored Slotkin’s stance, calling Piker’s remarks “a new low.” She posted, “Blaming Jewish Americans for the violence and hate they’re facing is not just wrong, it provides an excuse to those perpetuating these anti-Jewish hate crimes.” Rosen clarified that crimes against Jews for being Jews equate to antisemitism, with no excuses acceptable.
Abdul El-Sayed, competing in Michigan’s Democrat primary for the U.S. Senate, previously claimed he does not need to answer for all of Piker’s statements. However, he notably distanced himself from Piker’s recent controversy. Many politicians, including fellow Democrats, have condemned Piker for allegedly blaming the Jewish community for the attacks they suffer.
Piker has been linked to various contentious statements, including remarks that “America deserved 9/11” and supportive comments towards impoverishing the “White middle-class.” Attempts to get comments from Piker’s representatives by Fox News Digital have been unsuccessful.
