DHS and DOT Investigate Fraudulent Truck Driver Schools

1 month ago 0

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Transportation (DOT) are jointly investigating truck driver schools suspected of issuing fraudulent certifications. This effort primarily focuses on commercial driver’s licenses given to non-citizens, raising safety concerns after several fatal truck accidents involving illegal immigrants.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced an upcoming fraud crackdown linked to the Trump administration’s policies. In an online post, Duffy indicated a significant announcement scheduled for Monday, with a collaborative effort involving multiple government departments.

“Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy on Sunday teased an upcoming announcement about the Trump administration’s fraud crackdown.”

Tagged in Duffy’s post are Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Department of Justice, and the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud. Specifics about the event, including its location, have yet to be disclosed.

This development is part of a broader initiative launched by the Trump administration. In March, the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud was established to coordinate federal benefit fraud prevention. Additionally, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has set up a National Fraud Enforcement Division to investigate and prosecute misuse of taxpayer funds.

Recently, the DOT and DHS have intensified their crackdown on safety violations and fraud within the commercial trucking industry. Suspicions include improperly issued licenses, deceptive driving schools, and unchecked foreign drivers. Since July, the agencies have started examining roughly 75 commercial driving institutions allegedly involved in falsifying training records and certifying unqualified drivers.

Moreover, roadside operations have targeted foreign drivers operating without proper qualifications. The administration’s expanded fraud investigation spans health care, governmental benefits, trade, and immigration programs.
