In Iran, a significant event is concluding. The weeklong, multicity funeral for the former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei ends today with his burial in Mashhad. This city holds great importance as it is both the birthplace of Khamenei and a sacred site in Shiite Islam. The funeral has drawn hundreds of thousands of mourners following his casket.

These massive crowds, although reminiscent of past demonstrations, appear in a context of mourning. Speculation exists about possible orchestration, yet it remains a moment of national significance.
