Ex-LSU Receiver Demetrius Byrd Arrested for Bus Incident

Demetrius Byrd, a former standout receiver from Louisiana State University (LSU), has been arrested following a serious altercation on a bus in Miami. According to reports, Byrd engaged in a heated argument with another passenger and allegedly brandished a knife during the confrontation.

The New York Post detailed that Byrd reportedly asked the passenger, “Who wants to die?” The incident escalated as Byrd allegedly began yelling at other passengers. When the individual tried to de-escalate the situation, Byrd supposedly revealed the weapon.

Byrd faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is being held on a $5,000 bond. In addition, there is an outstanding warrant against him for domestic violence.

Demetrius Byrd is well-remembered for his performance at LSU, particularly his game-winning touchdown catch against Auburn in 2007. This crucial play, with one second left on the clock, helped the Tigers to a 24-23 victory and eventually led them to the national championship title that year.

Despite high prospects for an NFL career, Byrd’s journey took a harsh turn due to a significant car accident just before the draft, causing him to drop to the seventh round. The San Diego Chargers picked him, but he never played professionally due to injuries from the crash.

During his tenure at LSU, Byrd participated in 27 games, gathering 72 receptions for 1,134 yards, and scoring 11 touchdowns. His on-field achievements remain a highlight of his college football career.
