Irish authorities reportedly seek to extradite the primary suspect in the murder of Jamey Carney. The 43-year-old New York mother was found beaten and suffocated in her Killarney home last month. Carney, who shared her experiences living abroad as a “New Yorker in Ireland,” was discovered by her teenage daughter on July 7.
Investigators suspect her partner, a Jordanian national seeking asylum in Ireland, committed the murder before escaping on a flight to Istanbul. He eventually reached Jordan, where law enforcement detained him.
American citizen Jamey Carney’s death has prompted an international investigation.
Authorities have submitted a file to Ireland’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) recommending murder charges, as reported by The Irish Mirror. The DPP is reviewing the evidence to decide on formal charges. If approved, Irish officials must navigate diplomatic challenges since there is no formal extradition treaty between Ireland and Jordan.
An Garda Síochána, Ireland’s national police force, declined to comment to Fox News Digital but confirmed that the investigation continues. They have submitted a file to the DPP.
Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan emphasized exploring all diplomatic and judicial avenues to ensure justice, according to The Irish Independent. He noted that the gardaí are focusing on a suspect who left the country before Carney’s body was found.
The suspect initially entered the United Kingdom, then moved through Northern Ireland before settling in County Kerry. While living in government accommodation for asylum seekers, he worked in hospitality and construction and increased his visits to Carney’s home after they began a romantic relationship.
Carney’s social media posts often included her partner. She referred to their relationship as a “mixed couple” and mentioned learning Arabic. Her sister, Devon, was present at Carney’s funeral at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Killarney on July 15, 2026.
The Irish Independent reported the suspect wanted to move to the United States and had told people Carney was helping him with U.S. residency.
Fox News Digital reached out to the Director of Public Prosecutions for further comment.
