On Tuesday, F-16 fighter jets intercepted a plane that entered a restricted no-fly zone near President Donald Trump while he was in Geneva, Ohio. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) reported the incident.
Around 6:15 p.m. ET, the jets released flares to capture the pilot’s attention before safely escorting the aircraft away from the prohibited area. Trump was in Ohio to participate in the Patriot Games. This three-day sporting event for teenagers was organized by his administration to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States.
NORAD, consisting of American and Canadian military forces, routinely intercepts unauthorized aircraft entering temporary restricted airspace near the president. On Sunday, F-16s also intercepted two “general aviation” planes violating temporary airspace restrictions in Bedminster, New Jersey, where Trump visited his golf course. General aviation refers to non-commercial civilian aircraft.
