Fan Injured by Foul Ball at Mariners Game

Attending a Major League Baseball game requires constant attention to your surroundings. Over the weekend, a fan learned this lesson the hard way. Jamie Golla, at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, was hit on the head by a foul ball during a game between the Seattle Mariners and the San Diego Padres.

Golla was sitting in the lower bowl on the third-base side. Her friend captured a selfie video as San Diego’s Sung-mun Song led off the fifth inning. Suddenly, the video turned from joy to pain as a foul ball struck Golla’s head.

The impact was severe, and the sound was unsettling. The ball was not an ordinary foul; fans nearby didn’t attempt to catch it. Such foul balls cause tension whether you’re at the game or watching from home, as everyone hopes the ball doesn’t hit anyone.

According to the New York Post, Golla went to Harborview Medical Center shortly after the incident. “I’m feeling a bit better. My head is still swollen, and I have minor headaches, but overall I’m okay,” she stated. Golla was surprised by the attention the video received and appreciated support from those who reached out.

A Mariners staff member later contacted Golla to check on her and offered tickets for a future game. Despite the unfortunate event, the Mariners lost to the Padres, 2-0. The episode highlights the need for fans to stay alert during games.
