At least one person was killed and six others injured during a shooting at a large party in rural California on Saturday night. The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. in Morgan Hill, around 25 miles south of San Jose, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.

The event was an unsanctioned party promoted via social media that attracted over 300 people. Initially, deputies responded to reports of intoxicated individuals on the road and someone throwing bottles at passing cars. Upon arrival, they encountered chaos after gunfire broke out, as stated by the sheriff’s office.

Authorities provided emergency aid until medical personnel arrived. Despite their efforts, one person was declared dead at the scene. Several other individuals suffered gunshot wounds and were transported to nearby hospitals.

“This tragic and senseless violence is completely unacceptable,” said Santa Clara County Sheriff Robert Jonsen. “Our hearts go out to the victim’s family, those recovering from their injuries, and everyone in our community affected by this traumatic event.”

Preliminary findings suggest the suspect used a handgun, although no suspects have been publicly identified. Homicide detectives believe the shooting was an isolated incident. They anticipate the investigation will be thorough and detailed.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded, including the Morgan Hill Police Department, Gilroy Police Department, California Highway Patrol, and San Jose Police Department. The authorities are working diligently to identify and apprehend those responsible for the violence.
