Father’s Disappointment Over FIFA World Cup Ticket Reassignment

3 weeks ago 0

A father, who purchased “once-in-a-lifetime” FIFA World Cup tickets for his family, faced disappointment when they were moved from their selected seats without notification. This father bought four Category 1 tickets for Match 74 at Gillette Stadium in Boston, set for June 29. His plan included taking his 11-year-old son, an avid soccer fan and aspiring goalkeeper.

During FIFA’s Last-Minute Sales Phase, the father selected tickets for Row 1, Seats 1-4, near the corner flag, aiming for an unobstructed view and personal player interactions. Each ticket was bought at a high price of $1,860, totaling $7,440 on April 21. Confirmation was received for these specific seats.

However, by June 1, he discovered his family’s seats had been reassigned to a different section, closer to midfield, and moved to Row 3. Though many would see these seats as better, he was upset, having specifically paid for the front-row experience.

The father expressed frustration with FIFA for the lack of communication regarding the change. He discovered the reassignment only by checking online. Attempts to contact FIFA for an explanation and seat restoration, including multiple calls and emails, were unsuccessful.

Responding to Newsweek’s inquiry, FIFA revealed the move was due to restricted-visibility issues. A review had found that two of the initial seats were obstructed. However, why this review occurred post-purchase, and why the father wasn’t informed, remained unexplained.

Following Newsweek’s contact, the family was returned to their desired seats, now closer to the field in front-row positions. The father is content with this resolution and looks forward to the event.
