Dr. Anthony Fauci faced intense scrutiny during a congressional hearing when he invoked the Fifth Amendment 111 times. Former federal prosecutor Jonathan Fahey discussed the significance of Fauci’s repeated refusals to answer questions related to his personal diary and the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the hearing, Fauci declined to respond to inquiries about funding gain-of-function research in Wuhan, China. The session was chaired by Senator Rand Paul, R-Ky., a vocal critic of Fauci’s pandemic policies.
Former NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers criticized Fauci on “The Pat McAfee Show,” expressing disbelief at Fauci’s strategy. Rodgers questioned Fauci’s avoidance of answering questions despite having legal protections.
“Are you kidding me? You get a pardon, and you pleaded over 100 times at the White House? What are you scared of, Tony?” Rodgers commented.
Fauci’s attorney, David Schertler, responded to Rodgers’ remarks through The Athletic, defending Fauci’s actions and advising Rodgers to focus on football.
“Aaron Rodgers doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He should stick to football,” Schertler remarked.
The Pittsburgh Steelers, where Rodgers played, addressed the incident through spokesman Burt Lauten, emphasizing that players are entitled to their personal views on various subjects.
“Discussions around culture and politics can bring differing perspectives, and our players are entitled to their own personal views,” Lauten stated.
Rodgers, who previously drew attention for his comments on COVID-19 immunization, continues to create buzz in his final NFL season, marking 22 years in the league.
