FBI Director Kash Patel, in an exclusive interview, shared the Bureau’s substantial achievements in reducing crime during the Trump administration. He emphasized a significant decrease in violent crime by 185%, the rescue of over 7,000 children from predators, and dismantling millions of pedophile accounts. Additionally, he noted the successful resolution of two hostage situations and the crackdown on over $8 billion in fraud networks.
The FBI marked the first anniversary of the Trump administration’s intensified crime reduction initiative in Washington, D.C. This effort resulted in thousands of arrests and substantial seizures, stemming from President Trump’s Safe and Beautiful initiative. The plan deployed federal agents and National Guard troops to address crime in the nation’s capital.
“Last summer, President Trump made the historic decision to increase federal resources in Washington, D.C., to address crime. Thanks to his leadership and the commitment of brave FBI agents, our nation’s capital is now safer,” stated FBI Director Kash Patel.
The intensified crime crackdown resulted in over 6,000 arrests, including nearly 2,000 drug seizures and over 1,300 illegal firearm seizures. Homicides in D.C. experienced a noteworthy reduction of 44% from the prior year. The enforcement efforts also recovered $252,592 in cash following 237 search warrants.
Patel affirmed that the federal effort will persist, stating, “The greatest country on earth should have a capital city reflecting it, where American taxpayers can live, visit, and interact with their government without fear of violent crime.”
The federal surge was a response to notable violent crimes in Washington, including the killing of a 21-year-old congressional intern and other high-profile incidents involving MS-13 gang members.
However, the National Guard deployment faced criticism, particularly regarding its legality. Then-Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser expressed concerns, stating, “I don’t think it’s legal for the National Guard to police Americans on American soil.”
