A deputy from Florida carried out a murder-suicide involving his former girlfriend after a conflict regarding a television, authorities reported. The tragic event occurred when Deputy Troy Savetz, who served in the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office for 14 years, confronted Mandy Fackler, a mother of two.
Friends identified Fackler as the victim, leaving behind children aged 12 and 9. Savetz was waiting outside her home upon her return from the beach, armed and demanding his TV back. When Fackler attempted to contact 911, Savetz took her phone, prompting her to instruct her children to enter the house. They obediently did and later called 911, providing crucial details that helped identify Savetz.
Officers responded quickly, finding Fackler’s car with its door open. Heavy use of K-9 teams, drones, and aviation units led to locating the vehicle in Spring Hill. Upon arrival, officers discovered Savetz and Fackler deceased inside.
Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco commended the children for their bravery during the emergency, noting their critical role in assisting authorities. He reassured them that their actions adhered to their mother’s wishes, expressing community support and acknowledging their courage.
Previously commended for his service, Savetz had been recognized in 2014 for preventing a suicide and had garnered public recognition from local communities, sports teams, and organizations. However, his recent actions led to a swift denouncement by Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, who emphasized that Savetz’s status as a deputy ended the moment he committed the crime.
