A former Disney Channel actress, Raquel Lee Bolleau, has filed a lawsuit with serious allegations regarding her time on set. She claims that an adult male employee sexually abused her when she was 14 years old during the production of the 2001 movie The Poof Point.
According to the lawsuit, Disney personnel encouraged her to form a connection with the employee. The abuse started after these instructions were given. The complaint details how the employee provided her with alcohol and repeatedly assaulted her during the movie’s filming.
Bolleau recounted the perpetrator saying, “You’re old enough. You can handle it.”
Bolleau stated that after these incidents, she returned to set showing signs of distress, such as smelling of alcohol and vomiting, but no investigation was initiated by Disney. Instead, a Disney executive reportedly labeled her as “out of control” and noted the production had gone “haywire.” Her representatives were told that Disney was “extremely upset.”
The lawsuit outlines multiple failures by Disney, including separating Bolleau from her guardian, which is against California laws that require a guardian to be near a child performer. Her guardian couldn’t oversee her during filming or accompany her to makeup and wardrobe, increasing her vulnerability.
Furthermore, the lawsuit alleges that the employee harassed her in view of others on set. He allegedly made inappropriate comments while cast members could hear them through microphones. The lawsuit claims sound technicians heard but did not intervene.
The lawsuit accuses Disney of covering up the abuse and blaming Bolleau for her behavior changes. Bolleau also recounted an incident during a flight where she was deliberately seated away from her guardian and assaulted by the employee.
She is seeking legal remedies, including compensatory and punitive damages, citing Disney’s negligence in oversight and violation of child actor protections. Her attorneys emphasized the industry must hold accountable those involved in such conduct.
Bolleau’s entertainment career began as a child actor, appearing on Malcolm & Eddie and later The Amanda Show. She then worked with Disney as a performer in The Poof Point and voiced a character on The Proud Family.
The lawsuit also alleges that Disney threatened and canceled her role following the assault allegations. Disney has not yet commented on the lawsuit.
