Former Financial Analyst Faces Murder Charges After Death of Boston Police Officer

4 weeks ago 0

Karen Read, a former financial analyst and college professor from Massachusetts, found herself at the center of a high-profile case in early 2022. This attention followed the tragic death of her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe, who was killed in late January.

In June 2022, Read faced indictment on murder charges. She entered a plea of not guilty, maintaining her innocence. The charges stem from accusations of Read allegedly ramming her Lexus SUV into O’Keefe after a drunken argument, leaving him outside in a snowstorm.

The trial is set to begin in April 2024, backed by a strong defense led by Alan Jackson. Jackson is notable for his successful defense of Kevin Spacey in a 2019 sexual assault case. Despite these efforts, the initial trial concluded with a hung jury.

Read faces multiple serious charges, including second-degree murder, manslaughter, and leaving the scene of a fatal accident related to O’Keefe’s death. Throughout the process, she consistently professes her innocence.
