1 month ago 0

Angelynn “Angie” Mock, a former television news anchor from Missouri, has confessed to killing her mother on Halloween last year. Authorities revealed that Mock admitted to fatally stabbing her mother, 80-year-old Anita Avers, after wrongly identifying her as the devil. This was announced last week by the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.

The plea deal dictates that Mock, aged 48, will face a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 25 years. She pleaded guilty to first-degree murder charges related to the incident that took place on October 31, 2025.

Officers responded to a distress call at the Wichita residence that Mock shared with her mother and stepfather at around 7:50 a.m. She was found outside with injuries on her hands. Avers suffered multiple stab wounds and succumbed to these injuries in the hospital.

Statements from Mock suggested that she was under the belief that her mother was the devil. She mentioned acting in self-preservation. A probable cause affidavit detailed that her stepfather claimed she was diagnosed with mental illness, including delusions and depression.

Mock, who has a history in television journalism, previously served as a news anchor and reporter at Fox 2 in St. Louis between 2011 and 2015. She also held a position as a morning anchor from 2007 to 2011 at KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City and had worked in Minnesota, Montana, and Nebraska in various reporting roles.

Mock is scheduled for sentencing on October 5.
