Former News Anchor Sentenced to Life for Mother’s Murder

A former St. Louis television news anchor, Angelynn “Angie” Mock, has been sentenced to life imprisonment after admitting to fatally stabbing her mother in Kansas. The incident occurred on Halloween of 2025. Mock, aged 48, will have the opportunity for parole after serving 25 years, as reported by KWCH from a Sedgwick County District Court judge’s ruling.

Mock’s conviction follows a plea agreement in which she faced charges of first-degree murder. The tragic event unfolded on October 31, 2025, when officers found Mock’s mother, Anita Avers, 80, with multiple stab wounds in her Wichita, Kansas home. Mock lived there with her stepfather.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Mock expressed beliefs that her mother was the devil and stated that the act was to “save herself.” Mock’s stepfather mentioned her history of mental illness, including delusions and depression. While initially suspected of having bipolar disorder, she was later thought to suffer from schizoaffective disorder.

Despite claims related to her mental health, Mock was deemed competent to stand trial in July. By August, she pleaded guilty to first-degree murder. Mock was arrested and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail.

Before transitioning to software sales, Mock served as a news anchor and reporter for Fox 2 KTVI in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015. Her professional journey also included a stint as a morning anchor at KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City from 2007 to 2011.
