Edgerrin James Makes Public Plea for His Son Amid Substance Abuse Issue
Hall of Fame running back Edgerrin James turned to social media to seek support for his son, Jizzle James, who is dealing with a substance abuse problem. Jizzle, a former basketball player for Charlotte, is reportedly not in the right state of mind. Edgerrin James urged anyone who encounters his son to offer love and support, but refrain from giving him any material possessions.
In an Instagram Story, James wrote: “Jizzle is dealing with substance abuse and is NOT in the right state of mind right now. If you see him, show him LOVE-but DO NOT give him money, valuables, or anything material.”
Encouragement Over Material Support
Edgerrin James stressed the importance of supporting his son through encouragement and love, rather than material aid. “You’re not helping him by feeding the problem. He wants/needs for NOTHING. Give him a hug. Give him encouragement. Give him love. THAT’S IT. Be patient with him. We’re fighting for him, not against him.”
Jizzle James’ Turbulent College Basketball Career
Jizzle James briefly played college basketball at Charlotte after transferring from Cincinnati. His stint was marked by instability, including a dismissal from the Cincinnati program followed by reinstatement midway through the season. While at Cincinnati, he averaged 10.9 points and 2.1 assists per game over 23 appearances.
James later hinted at a potential reunion with Cincinnati through a social media post. However, the school responded with a cease-and-desist letter prohibiting him from using its name and likeness. The letter obtained by SI.com stated: “As you are no longer a member of the University of Cincinnati men’s basketball program, you are no longer authorized to use, represent, or commercially promote the University of Cincinnati basketball program, including the use of the University’s name, logos, uniforms, jerseys, or other team-related likenesses.”
In his defense, James shared a response via Instagram: “I have my own merch I made. I don’t need y’all jerseys.”
