A former member of Thailand’s House of Representatives, Chalong Reawraeng, has been arrested for allegedly shooting a local official and his driver in Nonthaburi province, just outside Bangkok. During a phone call with a notable media commentator, Anchalee Paireerak, Reawraeng reportedly confessed to the attack before he was taken into custody by local authorities.
The incident occurred on Monday when Reawraeng allegedly opened fire on ex-police officer Thongchai Yenprasert, who was serving as a local official. The provincial police chief, Major General Dejrapee Kongdee, confirmed the arrest of the suspected shooter.
This event follows a tragic incident in the same province, where a teenager killed his grandparents and subsequently opened fire in a school. This attack resulted in nine fatalities, including the shooter, and renewed discussions on gun control in Thailand.
During a YouTube livestream, journalist and presenter Anchalee Paireerak received a phone call. Paireerak appeared visibly stunned as she questioned whether the caller’s victim had died from a gunshot to the head. She advised the caller to remain on the scene for police arrival.
