Former President George W. Bush recently shared a lighthearted memory involving New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter at Yankee Stadium post-9/11. He recounted the moment alongside his former national security advisor, Condoleezza Rice, during a reunion at the George W. Bush Presidential Center in Dallas, Texas.

During the 2001 World Series, Bush experienced pressure due to the country’s fragile state. Jeter provided a wry comment before the ceremonial first pitch by advising, ‘Don’t bounce it, they’ll boo you.’ The audience at the event chuckled as Bush described the intense emotions at Yankee Stadium as he approached the pitcher’s mound.

At the 9/11 remembrance event, Bush reminisced about his feelings on that day in October 2001. He noted the catcher looked small and the ball seemed heavy. Reflecting on the crowd’s faces, Bush perceived a collective spirit of resilience, thinking, ‘You can knock down our buildings, but you d— sure not going to touch our soul.’

Bush successfully threw the ball over the plate, describing the experience as ‘memorable.’ He characterized the moment as a significant emotional experience.

Terror Attacks Anniversaries Approaching

This Friday marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. On that day, al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four airplanes, leading to a swift and devastating strike against the United States. Two flights hit the Twin Towers in New York City, causing their collapse and resulting in significant casualties. Another plane struck the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and a fourth crash-landed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Nearly 3,000 people were killed in these attacks, among them were numerous firefighters and police officers dedicated to rescue efforts.
