The NFL season kicks off on Wednesday, but the spotlight remains on the first Sunday Night Football game. An NFC East matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants promises excitement.
The Cowboys bring a strong passing game featuring CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. On the other side, the Giants boast their own star receiver, Malik Nabers.
Unfortunately, Nabers suffered an ACL injury last season, casting doubt on his participation in the opener. However, Tuesday brought positive news for Giants fans.
The team released receiver Darius Slayton, which ESPN’s Giants reporter Jordan Raanan interprets as a good sign for Nabers’ recovery. Raanan shared his optimism on social media, saying, “Consider this informed speculation on my part on Malik Nabers. Seems to be trending in a positive direction.”
ESPN’s NFL reporter Dan Graziano agreed with Raanan, noting positive feedback from the coaching staff regarding Nabers’ summer progress.
“It sounds like he’s going to be good to go for Sunday night, which is massive for the Giants,” Graziano stated.
If Nabers returns to form after playing just four games last season, he poses a significant threat. In those brief appearances, he managed 18 receptions, 271 yards, and two touchdowns, hinting at a pace that could surpass his rookie year achievement of seven touchdowns.
Football Reference projects that a full 17-game season could yield 1,320 yards, 114 catches, and eight touchdowns for Nabers. These are elite numbers for an NFL receiver.
Yet, Nabers hasn’t been seen in full-speed action since the injury. Sunday night will reveal more about his current impact.
