Gorillaz Expresses Support for Palestine Following Macklemore’s Tour Removal

1 week ago 0

The English band Gorillaz recently took a stand during a performance in Florida. Frontman Damon Albarn showcased a Palestinian flag, aligning with the recent controversy surrounding rapper Macklemore’s removal from Ed Sheeran’s tour.

Don’t forget this. Ever. Stand your position. Don’t ever be neutral,

Albarn stated while hoisting the flag, emphasizing his support for Palestine. The gesture comes after Macklemore’s comments advocating for a ‘Free Palestine’ led to his removal from the tour, which Sheeran’s team stated was not influenced by the artist himself.

Fox News Digital sought comments from both Gorillaz and Ed Sheeran on the matter but received no immediate response.

Damon Albarn has previously expressed similar sentiments at past performances. At the Glastonbury Festival in 2024, he engaged the audience on their stance regarding Palestine, asking for their support.

The band’s show follows Macklemore’s controversial statements. After being removed from Sheeran’s tour, Macklemore defended his activism, asserting his intention to voice support for Palestine. In an Instagram post, he explained, “I am not a victim. Ed Sheeran is not a victim. We have careers, money, opportunities, and safety.”

Macklemore remained adamant about his message, performing his song ‘Hind’s Hall’ while continuing to rally for the pro-Palestinian cause.

Ed Sheeran addressed the ongoing controversy during a performance, maintaining he aims to avoid political commentary, focusing instead on unity and humanity. Yet, he acknowledged the humanitarian challenges, stating:

What happened in Israel at a music festival was horrific… What is happening in Gaza is catastrophic and unjustifiable and disproportionate,

Sheeran expressed his stance on both the events in Israel and the situation in Gaza, indicating the complex emotions surrounding the issue.
