Graham Platner’s Senate Campaign in Crisis

1 hour ago 0

By the time you read this, it’s hoped that Graham Platner will have withdrawn from the Senate race in Maine. If not, he needs to do so immediately.

His campaign, which initially generated significant excitement and support in Maine, has turned into a disgraceful mess. The urgent task now is for the Democrats to find a suitable candidate to replace him and to determine any lessons from this situation.

As many are aware, Politico recently published a report about a woman named Jenny Racicot, who alleges that Platner raped her. Racicot claims that after an on-and-off romantic involvement for over two years, Platner appeared at her house without invitation while intoxicated in 2021 and assaulted her.

Racicot shared her experience with a man she dated after Platner, her therapist, and provided Politico with text messages from 2023 in which she warned an acquaintance against him. Her story is convincing and heartbreaking.

Platner has denied Racicot’s allegations but seems to acknowledge the political damage to his campaign. In a social media video, he stated, “Regardless of the inaccuracy of the reporting, but mindful of the political reality it will inflict, we are taking the time to reflect on the best path forward.”

This contemplation period must end quickly. According to Maine law, Platner must exit the race by next Monday for the Democrats to replace him on the November ballot. The sooner this ordeal concludes, the better.
