Democrats Distancing from Streamer
Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed is stepping away from left-wing streamer Hasan Piker following backlash over Piker’s controversial remarks. Political commentator Stephanie Hamill joins to discuss the political repercussions and the fierce condemnation from Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff. This incident underscores growing tensions within the Democratic Party as the 2026 midterm elections approach.
DSA Defends Hasan Piker
The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) have defended the controversial Twitch streamer, criticizing both Democrats and Republicans for targeting Piker and introducing a resolution condemning socialism in the House. The DSA’s official account stated that the establishment, including media, shifted from celebrating DSA victories to personal attacks and symbolic resolutions.
They suggested that the focus on Piker detracts from addressing issues like healthcare affordability affecting thousands of Americans.
Criticism from Pro-Israel Democrats
Piker has emerged as a significant figure in the struggle for the Democratic Party’s direction, with moderate and pro-Israel Democrats urging allies to distance themselves from him. Although the DSA supports the 35-year-old commentator, some Democrats criticize his statements about Jews.
Ossoff and Other Democrats Condemn Piker
Senator Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., has publicly rejected Piker’s dangerous rhetoric suggesting that policy advocacy could lead to violence against any community. Ossoff emphasized that such rhetoric is reckless.
Piker’s comments during an August 20 Twitch stream about Jewish Americans and Israel prompted Ossoff’s response.
Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla., also criticized Piker, stating that the party cannot accommodate both their perspectives.
Amendment Against Socialism
Moskowitz is among four Democrats proposing an amendment to a Republican resolution against socialism, advancing by the House Rules Committee. This amendment kept socialism condemnation but removed election-related provisions.
The amendment declared socialism as incompatible with American values and cited historical failures of communism.
Impact on Party Unity
The amendment was not included in the resolution. This controversy highlights the complexity of integrating diverse viewpoints within the party.
Fox News Digital reached out to the DSA, Piker, Ossoff, and other involved parties for further comment.
