Media attention has sharply increased surrounding Natalie Harp, a key aide to former President Donald Trump. This follows remarks from Senator Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., suggesting an inappropriate connection between Harp and Trump. Though Ossoff has distanced himself from these implications, both CNN and MS NOW have extensively covered the story.
CNN and MS NOW have cited Harp numerous times over the past weeks. Data from Grabien shows that in one week, Harp’s name was mentioned 308 times on CNN and 344 times on MS NOW. This coverage continued into the following week, with CNN referencing Harp 318 times and MS NOW over 400 times by mid-Tuesday.
The networks have focused on letters Harp wrote to Trump and her involvement in a plane switch out of Turkey last month. Additionally, reports emerged that Harp lacked a security clearance despite close access to the former president. CNN highlighted past social media activity showing her strong support for Trump on January 6. It was also reported that Harp allegedly insisted on accompanying Trump to a court appearance, even resorting to unconventional means.
CNN drew criticism from conservative groups after airing an interview with Harp’s estranged brother, Preston Harp. The White House reprimanded CNN following a question posed by their correspondent Kristen Holmes about Ossoff’s comments, which led to CNN defending their reporter.
Curtis Houck from the Media Research Center stated that CNN and MS NOW’s intense coverage is due to their opposition to Trump, and this scrutiny involves dragging others through the mud. Attempts to get comments from CNN and MS NOW representatives were unsuccessful.
