1 hour ago 0

Millions gathered in Iran to mourn the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed during a conflict involving the United States and Israel. The somber event took place in Tehran on Monday, as his body was transported through the densely packed streets. The funeral procession will continue through multiple cities, concluding with his burial in Mashhad.

Crowds carrying signs and portraits filled the streets, displaying images of Khamenei and slogans calling for vengeance. Some posters depicted former U.S. President Trump alongside Vice President JD Vance with crosshairs over their faces. Another frequent slogan read, “There will be blood,” expressing the high tension surrounding the event.

Amid temperatures exceeding 90 degrees, officials used water sprays to cool the mourners during the lengthy procession. The entire weeklong funeral has been meticulously organized by the Iranian government. The aim is to honor Khamenei’s leadership, marked by his suppression of dissent and promotion of policies against Western influences, while also demonstrating national solidarity and resolve.

Ayatollah Khamenei had led Iran for over 37 years, until his death on February 28, the first day of the U.S.-Israeli offensive. Although the U.S. and Iran have agreed to a temporary cease-fire, discussions for a more permanent resolution have been postponed until after all the funeral ceremonies are completed.
