Celebrating the Knicks’ Triumph: A Baby Naming Trend
Following the Knicks’ historic N.B.A. championship win, a new trend in baby naming is emerging. Experts predict that names inspired by the team’s players could see a surge in popularity.
Influential Names
Names such as Jalen, Joshua, Miles, and Tyler are already popular in the United States, ranking among the top 1,000 names for boys, according to the Social Security Administration. Landry is also gaining traction. This uptick is likely due to the blend of the Knicks’ success, the likability of its players, and the city’s unity in support.
Jalen Brunson: A Rising Star
Jalen Brunson, the team captain and N.B.A. finals MVP, could become a significant influence on baby names. Pamela Redmond, from Nameberry, suggested Brunson might follow the path of Michael Jordan in becoming a premier name choice for newborns. Although there were nine baby boys named Brunson in 2025, Jalen holds a special attraction with potential for variations among baby girls too.
NYC Healthy, the city’s Health Department, noted only five babies named Jalen since March 1. They expect this number to rise as the community continues to celebrate the Knicks’ victory.
The Knicks’ blend of talented players and the supportive community foster a unique cultural moment.
