Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown: Navigating a Changed Relationship Amid Trade

The 2025 Season and Trade

Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown experienced an uneven 2025 season with the Eagles, leading to Brown’s trade to the Patriots for future draft picks. The move came as signs emerged that the friendship between Hurts and Brown had deteriorated.

Post-Trade Relationship

Questions regarding their relationship lingered even two months after the trade. During recent joint practices with the Eagles, Brown confirmed he had not spoken with Hurts since. When asked by reporters, Brown replied simply with, “No.” Hurts addressed the issue differently in an interview with GQ, acknowledging the relationship shift.

No Specific Incident

Brown clarified in June that no specific incident led to the rift. He explained that sometimes people naturally grow apart, emphasizing no personal issues occurred between the two. Brown and Hurts were seen catching up during joint practices, indicating a cordial interaction.

Maintaining Positivity

Brown urged reporters to focus on positive narratives, insisting on keeping emotions positive despite inquiries about their friendship. Hurts mirrored this sentiment by expressing continued affection for Brown.

Achievements and Frustrations

Brown holds the top two single-season receiving yardage records in Eagles history from 2022 and 2023. Despite contributing to a Super Bowl win, frustrations about his role surfaced, including a belief he was under-targeted in zone coverage.

Looking Forward

Brown stated his affection for Philadelphia while focusing on his new journey with New England. He expressed love for the Eagles, where he earned a Super Bowl ring, yet emphasized his current commitment to the Patriots.

Background

Their connection started with Hurts hosting Brown during a recruiting visit to Alabama. Their friendship evolved through offseason workouts, with Hurts becoming godfather to Brown’s daughter.

The Eagles commence their regular season at home against the Washington Commanders on September 13. The Patriots begin their season in Seattle against the Super Bowl champion Seahawks on September 9.
